Life Isn’t Fair, But God Is!
Life isn’t fair. It never will be. In fact, it can’t be. Think about this for a moment. Your boss gives you credit for doing something special at work. Your teacher gives you a better grade than you know you earned. The referee let’s you “get by” without calling a foul on you. In each case you did nothing to earn the rewards. Do you ask for fairness??? Oh no. You are very happy with mercy and grace. The truth is, I don’t think you want God to be fair with you. That could mean real trouble for you.
God is fair. Life is not fair! So, God offers grace, not giving you what you deserve, and giving you another chance. He offers mercy, not giving us what we do deserve. Pretty awesome isn’t it The reason life isn’t fair is because of sin – not doing what God asks us to do in all matters of our lives. So…stuff happens to everyone, that no one wants to happen in their lives. But it does because we insist on having a better idea about how to live our lives than God does.
Is Christianity a “fair” religion?? Absolutely not! God tried fair one time. It didn’t work out well at all. It was a perfect world; equal opportunity, same truth system, same standard of right and wrong for everyone, equal employment, great housing, healthy lifestyle for all, perfect environment, the weather was always perfect, only one rule for everyone – love and obey God. Life was simple and perfect!
One additional perfect gift to everyone – CHOICE! The wonderful freedom to choose! For that choice to have meaning, God gave us this option – Obey or disobey the ONE rule. Love and Obey God. Obedience would say “Thank You” to God for creating you and giving you all of life’s blessings, disobedience would bring about death, psychologically, emotionally, and ultimately physically. YOUR CHOICE!
So, the next time you get upset about the unfairness of your life, remember the current system was not God’s design. It is a distorted version because of poor choices. YOUR CHOICE!
