Authority and Personal Freedom

There is no moral advantage in being obedient to any authority, unless you believe there is a higher Authority. For example, think of the Teachers’ aid, the Teacher, the Principle, the Superintendent of Schools, the Mayor, and the Governor, etc. You know, the chain-of-command. A “higher authority” holds all those other “authorities” accountable.

So, that could be helpful for understanding why so many people don’t feel it?  is necessary to obey authority these days. If you think it is not necessary to obey any authority then you become your own authority – your own god so to speak.? A person really is a slave with no “rights” if he obeys anyone, unless behind his obedience is the recognition of a “higher authority” – God! If not, then they don’t believe they are disobeying at all. They are just living life to the best of their understanding, which is “take care of numero uno” always. This is often called “personal freedom.”

Two hundred years ago, John Adams wrote, Our Constitution was made for a moral and religious people. It is wholly in adequate for the governing of any other.” So, you can see why lawlessness and anarchy exist at such a high rate. We are becoming a Nation that no longer believes in any kind of authority. This is demonstrated daily in your local newspaper and news reports. Government of every kind, home, city, school, work, etc has/is greatly diminished if not gone. So, though there are authorities in place, they are increasingly ineffective, because our leaders no longer feel they need to be governed.

Although Authority and authorities are at the foundation of our families, the Church, and our Nation, disobedience will continue to increase as long?  As those authorities are not recognized as. representatives of Almighty God.

Understand this; God will never insist that we obey. But, when I don’t, I am backing away from His desire to give me the opportunity to be recreated and fulfilled. God doesn’t really care how evil and awful you are. He continues to provide the opportunity to be loved. It’s your choice to accept it or deny it. But, it won’t be very promising for you if you keep refusing His love.
